Hello again from the nation's capital !
For those of you that do not have to change your clocks be thankful. It will take a couple of weeks before it seems normal. We will struggle to stay awake at night and lay awake an hour before we have to get out of bed.
The Ranger Green team played in the Capital Fall Classic Hockey Tournament this weekend. They played two games on Friday and one on Saturday. They placed last. We are not very happy. Our luck of the draw in the round robin sucked again this tournament. The two teams we lost to ended up in the finals. The rest of the teams we could have beat no problem. Oh well. We won the first game and have a copy of it on DVD. Carter played an exceptional tournament. He played his position, made some very nice hits, some very nice passes resulting in two assists, a few nice hits and even a couple of saves. He even made some incredible back checks after break aways. He could have had several assists but they were missed by the forwards. The two assists he had were from incredible passes and thankfully both stuck on the forwards stick. Overall the team played good. They beat the Nepean team 3-1. They started out a tad sluggish but recovered in the second and third period. The second and third games were against St Catharine's Falcons and the North York Aces (?). We pulled our goalies in the last few minutes to try and tie the games but to no avail. The boys played to the best of their ability. Both teams beat the other teams by four goals or more. It was a little disconcerting as some parents were glad to not have to return for the playoffs early Sunday morning. OMG!
We slept in this morning and enjoyed a nice traditional breakfast before starting our chores and shopping. Carter and Randy were off to purchase a new hockey bag. A bigger one was needed to store all the bigger equipment. We no longer have a little boy. Naturally hockey tape, grip and skate guards were also required. Paula and Carter then took off for the Ottawa '67's junior hockey game. The '67's lost in a nail biter. Then they went to Earl Armstrong to watch the AA team play. One of Carters team mates was called up and they went to cheer him on. Randy stayed home and laundered the hockey equipment before it got stored in the new bag. He also washed the windows, put away the patio furniture, picked up the dog doo doo, laundered the bedding, did the dishes, baked chocolate cookies and also made pizza for dinner. P & C returned home just as it was taken out of the oven. We then watched Captain America after dinner.
Saturday was another chore day until the hockey game at 6:00. We were at the rink at four for a pre-game lecture on nutrition and the normal warm-up which begins an hour before the game. We were home right afterwards and enjoyed Paula's turkey chili. Her recipe won the best dish at her work place this week. It raised the most funds for their charity. It was delicious. She also made pulled pork for our rush out the door dinners this week. She also baked two delicious apple crisps - one has already disappeared. We watched H.N.I.C. (less the dork D.C. of course).
The week was filled with hockey practises and games. The team won both games handily. Carter scored a nice goal and made a couple of nice assists. We were all excited at the wins. The team is in first place in there league. Hopefully they can keep the winning streak.
Not much else happening around here other than it has cooled off a bit. The days have been quite nice but otherwise it has started to freeze pretty much every morning. There are still some trees with leaves but not for long. They have been falling like snow the last couple of days.
Carter's first progress report card will be home on Monday. Hopefully he is doing okay. He tells us he is a straight A student... We will find out for ourselves. He wants to join the roseary club at school. He researched custom rosaries from Italy on the internet. We reminded him of the three very nice ones he received at confirmation...oh yeh! he says and changed the subject. He recited the whole rosarie to me after school. He taught me a lesson that day. Anyhow, he thinks there are good brownie points to be made with his religious teacher. We think there must be a girl involved.
That was our week. Can't wait to read the reports. Have a great week.
