Hello again from the nation's capital !
We are back to fall weather. It has been raining here for the last couple of days. The precipitation is welcome. The weather the week before and during the long weekend was spectacular. The temperature went up to 26C with little to no wind. It was just like summer with shorts, T's and sandals.
It has been a while since we have had time to report so we will start from today.
Carter is out raking the leaves and to prove it we should be taking a video. He got out there just before Randy returned from picking up his hockey skates. He will be out there for a while as there are lots of leaves on the grass. Paula is baking cinnamon buns, although she forgot to add the cinnamon, and mini fudge muffins. You know who will be spending an hour cleaning up afterwards. Bob is just in from playing fetch and is enjoying one of his bones in the hallway.
Yesterday Carter went to a movie with some buddies, Paula worked late and Randy enjoyed the afternoon running errands and doing chores. We caught a bit of the Calgary vs Toronto football game. It was an exciting finish.
The Ranger Green team (Carters team) played the Ranger White team on Thursday. The Green team won 4-3. They played Kanata on Wednesday and won 4-2. There was no practise this week although we could have had ice on Monday at 5:30pm. Nothing special this week other than it was nice and short.
We spent Thanksgiving weekend in York (Toronto) playing in the Whitby 15th annual thanksgiving weekend hockey tournament. We played four very exciting games against the top three teams in the tournament. We managed one very exciting tie (tied the game in the last second of the third period) and two very close losses. The first game we were disallowed two goals for some unknown reason. It could have meant the team wouldn't have made the playoffs; they went on to win the tournament. We make no excuses because our team played good and our goalies were spectacular. Carter spent a considerable amount of time in the penalty box as well as many other players from all teams. The refereeing was extremely brutal. Every team complained. They called absolutely everything and some very iffy calls that were good clean solid checks. Don Cherry would have been livid. One team spent all but three minutes in the penalty box - not against us although we wish. Our team is not so physical and a lot of them avoid the corner or the puck if any opposition is within ten metres (not exagerating - it drives their parents crazy). Anyhow, it was a great learning experience and our 'new' team benefited immensely.
We also had lots of time to shop and play. The Yorkdale mall was across the street. We spent some time and money shopping and eating at good restaurants. Our hotel had a nice restaurant, pool and a great activity area for the boys. They had a blast playing tennis, ping pong, swimming, mini sticks and other active games. They gave us a hospitality room one night and we partied in the hall the next night. Otherwise we caught up on our sleep. The earliest we played was ten o'clock one morning.
On Monday we had a late breakfast, said goodbye to the other stragglers, most went home on Sunday, then stopped in at the Toronto Zoo before leaving town. We only saw half of the place walking around for four hours. It is a great Zoo, the sun was shining and a perfect day. It was a long drive to on Thursday night and a very busy highway drive home on Monday. We were glad to arrive home at 9:00pm Monday night.
The week and weekend before were hockey hockey hockey with many practises and a few games. We lost one game and won another. We are 3 and 1. Not bad eh!. Carter was affiliated to the AA team this week. He is very excited. His coach told him he had a spectacular tryout and he should be proud of himself coming from Rep B to being affiliated with the AA team. Carter plays it cool. He just loves the game.
Glad to hear you all enjoyed Thanksgiving. We bought a turkey today and will enjoy it tomorrow for dinner. Hope you all enjoy Sean's wedding this afternoon.
