Hello again from the nation's capital !
First off - Happy Birthday Ruthie ! Hope you were treated to a wonderful day!
It is a beautiful day in Ottawa. The sun is shining and a nice fall breeze is blowing the yellow leaves from the trees. The cool mornings appeared this week out of no where. It went down to 4C Friday morning. What a change. We had a bit of rain this week. There were isolated areas of high wind and heavy rain reaking havic on a few neighborhoods. We were lucky and only received heavy rain for a few minutes. It dries real fast so we are in need of more precipitation.
We just returned from hockey practise. There was also a practise yesterday afternoon. The boys all skated hard. The Ice Breaker for the boys was held yesterday after practise. It was meant for the boys to get to know each other but also for the parents. Carter had a good time. They enjoyed hot dogs and dessert and played on the trampoline outside and mini sticks downstairs. Paula took a Mars bar rice crispy cake of which none returned home.
Carter also played in the Ultra Frisbee tournament on Friday. They did real good. Randy watched three games in the afternoon of which they won handily. They lost their first game of the day and the last in the playoffs. Carter did quite well; he was one of five grade sevens picked for the team. He scored a few touch downs and assisted on a few. It is a fun game played with seven players of which three have to be girls. It is alot of running and good exercise. The weather was cool and windy in the am but it warmed up in the afternoon.
We were kept busy with hockey practises on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. There has been no shortage of ice time. Our first tournament is in Whitby on the long weekend. Apparently 180 teams participate and we had to book our rooms yesterday. It is the same place the Lacrosse finals are held so fortunately we know the area. Turns out our hotel is 45 kilometres from Whitby. We will be doing a lot of driving.
The Roughriders played an exciting fourth quarter yesterday. Taylor field woke up in the second half. Man they were quiet in the first half. Mackenzie made an awesome interception to guarantee the win. Randy was cheering and hollering. Poor Bob went into a tizzy with all the excitement. It was nice to see them win; lets hope the streak continues. The Stamps vs Lions game was exciting. It was nice how they encorparated all the inductees into the game and broadcast. It was also nice to see Calgary take a licking.
Randy spent some time evaluating the Atom Cougars on Saturday. There were one or two A players, a mix of B players and alot of C players. We had to separate them into one A, one B and one C team. It was difficult for A and B but easy for C. Then he was asked by some parents to stay and watch the B/C game for the peewees. A few parents wanted a second opinion about their boys. It turns out the boys he stayed to watch all had good games and will be on B teams. The C coach always ends up in the finals and likes to stack his team. Turns out he was on evaluator and has a kid trying out. It was all a little scary as all the evaluators had kids trying out. The players and parents are not quite so enthusiastic aobut playing on the C team. Randy returned this am to watch the B balancing game. Most of the parents, ones we know, were happy. Carter has quite a few friends and classmates playing in house league. He wishes they were all good players so they could all play together.
Well, that is about it from Ottawa. Not much more happening. We look forward to reading your reports.
