Hello again from the nation's capital !
We are enjoying a lazy day in Ottawa. We all slept in late after going to bed unusually early. It is only fitting as we all had a rather busy/stressful week.
Yesterday was the last scrimmage session for Ranger A tryouts. Carter was on the ice at 4:00pm. He rested most of the day to prepare for the big game. He and Paula showed up just after 3pm to watch the first team play game against Kanata. Carter's team played Nepean right afterward. The team whom he played for last season had their first tryout on the opposite rink. They watched a little of both. Carter never signed up for the Blues this year as he did not want to play for them. I guess that gave him an extra push of effort to make the Rangers. Anyhow, Carter played his usual hard hitting game. Both teams lost by two goals, not a great effort for either team. It is early in the season and both teams have made final cuts. The only item left is team balancing. Carter and Paula waited in line for the news and speech from the coaches, then returned home to an anxious father. We hooted, hollered and cheered together when he handed his dad the acceptance letter. We are all thrilled to death. It was a long week with six hockey games and now the stress levels are a tad lower. We couldn't be prouder. Carter is very excited to be playing at a higher level of hockey and looks forward to the new season; which doesn't begin until October 4th. He has two balancing games this week then can only practise with the team in September. Carter received a boarding penalty in the last seconds of the game so received a two minute penalty and a game suspension. The game suspension has to be a valid game not an exhibition game. However, if we enter a tournament he can play.
He had games this week on Wednesday at 7pm at Barbara Ann Scott Arena (in Nepean driving thru rush hour traffic), on Friday night at 9:30pm (with line-ups after wards and cuts - home at 11:30pm), again on Saturday afternoon (at Sandy Hill) and again Sunday afternoon (close to home at the ORC - lining up for final cuts). We haven't heard any about how his team mates from last season but hope they are also Rangers. Carter and Paula were third from the last in the long line-up.
It was also a busy weekend other than Carter's hockey. Randy spent a few hours at the rink watching the peewee's and evaluating the Novice skaters. It was 29C outside and 11C in the rink. The rink was nicer as the humidity was tolerable. We also managed to clean up the place for our house guest this week. We worked like bee's in between rink committments with household chores. Maybe we should do it more regularly then it wouldn't be such a chore. Ya Right!
We celebrated last night by ordering Asian (chinese) food from the local takeout dive. They have very good food. We ordered a dish for each of us and two others we all enjoy. It was way to much food but will enjoy the left overs for then couple of days. We watched Ironclad after dinner then went straight to bed. We were all exhausted.
That is all the news we have this week and look forward to reading your long weekend reports. Enjoy these pic's from 2008 in Novice.
