Hello again from the nation's capital !
The hot weather continues. It is very humid today after last nights storm/rain. All weekend it was over 33C in the shade. Lets just hope it continues for a few more weeks.
Last night while we were eating dinner our neighbor advised us that there were severe weather warnings. We nodded politely, said 'thanks' and continued our dinner. We looked to the north and saw dark clouds. We quickly finished eating cleared the table and bolted into the house. The storm hit just as we closed the back door. The wind was ferocious. Bob and Randy stood in the carport and watched the wind and rain pelt the neighborhood. The worst of the storm lasted only a few minutes but the rain continued throughout the night. It was desparately needed. This morning you could tell where the storm hit the worst. It was isolated as only certain streets had damage. Randy was out and about the city this am and noticed many trees on the streets. We were very lucky on our street. It was exciting. The humidity jumped about ten degrees after the storm.
We spent the weekend in and out of hockey rinks with lacrosse. Carter is not playing but we went to every game plus a few others just to watch. His team played in the finals yesterday afternoon. They did amazing considering they had only ten runners; three are out with injuries and two are on vacation. They were ahead in the second period but soon ran out of steam. All in all it was a good tournament and should prepare them for Provincials. Carter is anxious to get back on the floor. We will take him for another X-Ray this week to see if the fracture is healing and if he can play in two weeks.
Last week was much of the same. We took Carter to his lacrosse practises and spent alot of time indoors enjoying the air conditioning. For some reason in rained most days between 5 and 7. No yard chores got completed during the week as it was wet or to dam hot. Randy woke up early on Saturday morning and raked and pushed mowed the front grass. He also washed both vehicles. We had a 12:00pm game in Kanata with a team BBQ afterwards. The next game was at 4:00pm then we hightailed it home to enjoy the air conditioning. We ended up ordering Chinese Food for dinner as it was way to hot to BBQ. We were all fast asleep before 11:00pm. Paula and Carter watched the new Arthur movie. They said it stank. Sunday was much the same except we slept in until 8:00am. The finals were at 12:30pm but we left early to watch the other Peewee team. Carter spent the afternoon swimming at a friends, Paula did the grocery shopping and Randy did chores and watched an episode of Game of Thrones. We BBQ'd steak, corn, yellow beans and garlic bread for dinner. It was a tad hot in the back yard but we survived the heat until the storm. Dinner was delicious. After dishes we watched the Calgary Stampede finals on CBC. We missed the chucks finals which aired here at 12:30pm, much to late for us.
After this week we are on holiday for two weeks hinging around lacrosse Provincials in Whitby the long weekend. We hope to rest and relax in Algonquin Park the second week. Nothing planned for the first week as Carter wants to stay home for practise. Who knows.
Have a great week. Thanks for the pictures Roberta.
